Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) & Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) renewed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the collaboration in the teaching of undergraduate studies and training of postgraduate studies in forensic science in Dewan Persidangan Universiti on 2 December 2016, in a ceremony with the presence of the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Khalid Abu Bakar dan Vice Chancellor USM Profesor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail.
The collaboration enabled the continuity of a long-built relationship stranded between USM and RMP since 1999, and further enhances strategic partnership in the studies and researches in the field of forensic science. This MoA provided greater opportunities to USM students, especially those who are trained in RMP, to equip themselves to face the working environment upon graduation.
The collaboration also facilitates research projects involving firearm, gunshot residues and questioned documents and DNA studies, for undergraduate and postgraduate students, while allowing the researchers and lecturers from USM to co-learn the latest development and challenges faced during forensic investigation of RMP. Through the signing of MoA, USM also offered five places for RMP officers to continue their studies in forensic science at the level of Bachelor degree and Master Degree with full exemption of tuition fees. It is hoped that this new MoA will benefit both parties in the next five years.
