Unified School Adoption Programme PPSK-SMKBC 2017

Unified School Adoption Programme or Program Sekolah Angkat Bersepadu (PSAB), PPSK-SMKBC 2017 is a continuous effort inaugurated by the School of Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The theme chosen for this year was “Healthy Family Develops a Productive Youth”, aiming to provide an exposure to students in secondary schools, especially in rural areas around Felda Chiku, Gua Musang, Kelantan about the importance of a happy family life to ensure the sustainability of children’s future.

The programme was led by Ian Ilham Rashid as director (2nd year Biomedicine programme student) under the guidance of Dr. Mohd Dasuki Sul’ain, held on 4th and 5th May 2017 at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Chiku strategically located at FELDA’s Chiku cluster in Gua Musang, Kelantan. The program was launched by Deputy PPD Gua Musang acting for Dato’ Paduka Nozula Mat Diah as VIP special guest.

The programme brought awareness to the parents and the community the importance of public health and health care. Free health screenings were conducted by examining blood sugar levels, body mass and blood pressure levels by nurses, laboratory staff and lecturers of USM. This programme also allowed USM students to organise an event to connect and socialise with the community secondary school students in rural areas through sharing of their experiences and thoughts. Apart from that, the development of concern towards the surrounding community, and understanding their customs and culture will benefit the USM students in serving the community.
