SCIENCE FOR SCHOOL 2018: INSPIRING FUTURE SCIENTISTS

The School of Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia had organised ‘Science for School 2018: Inspiring Future Scientists’ programme on 2nd and 4th April 2018, uniquely designed to inspire our young students to become future scientists and also to cultivate interest in science among Upper Secondary students (Form 4-6) of ten different schools from Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Bachok and Pasir Putih, Kelantan.

The programme commenced with an inspiring and motivational speech by the Dean, School of Health Sciences, Professor Dr Norazmi Mohd Nor on the first day and the Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Studies, Industry-Community and International Networking), Dr Ahmad Fahmi Lim Abdullah on the last day, who were able to stimulate fascination among participants. The highlights of the programme were the interactive science-orientated hands-on activities including demonstration on human anatomy, self DNA extraction technique, thalassemia pedigree, forensic analysis of fingerprint, as well as introductory lecture on our body defense system, that successfully stirred the interests in both students and teachers. Lastly, the event ended with certificate giving and closing remarks by the Deputy Dean, Dr Ahmad Fahmi Lim Abdullah and the Programme Advisor, Professor Dr Shaharum Shamsuddin on day 1 and 2 respectively.
