Two of PPSK postgraduate students from the Medical Radiation program, Noor Nabilah binti Talik Sisin (Ph.D.) and Nashrulhaq Tagiling (MSc) had received full travel sponsorships by the Thailand government to attend the 7th ASEAN Synchrotron Science Camp on 27-30 November 2018, hosted by the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI) in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. The event was joined by 77 participants from ASEAN country members such as Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines, and was done in collaboration with three United Kingdom government agencies: Newton Fund, Sciences & Technology Facilities Council and Diamond Light Source.

SLRI is an advanced research facility which utilizes particle accelerator technology to produce synchrotron radiation up to 1.2 GeV and operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Apart from attending keynote lectures, the attendants also got a chance to work collaboratively with scientists in performing various short experiment courses using synchrotron-related technology. Noor Nabilah was assigned to do infrared spectroscopy and imaging for plant cells using BL 4.1 IR beamline station, while Nashrulhaq followed the accelerator physics group to observe the underground accelerator machine and the engineer’s stations.
