SPORT SCIENCE - COURSE WORK

OVERVIEW
The Master of Science (Sport Science) programme is a 12 months’ full time study. This programme will cover the relevant basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and research methodology), and the effect of exercise on health. Apart from these common area, the curriculum also includes principles of training, sports nutrition, sports management, sports biomechanics and sports injuries.
 
The programme consists of two long semesters and one short semester. Lectures, seminars, tutorials and laboratory-based practical work will be covered in the two long semesters while candidates will have a professional attachment at their chosen places during the short semester. In addition, candidates have to carry out a research project that will be started in the second long semester. This project will involve laboratory or field-based research on a relevant sports science topic.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

i. Bachelor of Science/Health Science or other related and recognised degrees with CGPA ≥ 2.75; OR
ii. Bachelor degree as in section (i) with CGPA 2-50-2.74 AND research experience OR working experience in related field for at least one (1) year OR one (1) academic publication in the field applied for OR obtained at least a B in major courses OR at least B+ in final year research project; OR
iii. Bachelor degree as in section (i) with CGPA 2.49-2.00 AND research experience OR working experience in related field for at least five (5) years AND one (1) academic publication in the field applied for OR obtained at least a B in major courses OR at least B+ in final year research project.

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
(Applicable for International Applicants Only)
i. A minimum score of 550 in TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language) (paper-  based); OR
ii. A minimum score of 213 on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)(computer-based);or A minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language)(internet-based); OR
iii. A minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System);  OR
iv. English is the candidate’s mother tongue or National Language;  OR
v. The candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction at Bachelor and Master level is English;  OR
vi. English courses offered by British Council. (The level of qualification and the relevant courses are to be identified by the University Postgraduate Studies Council);  OR
vii. English courses offered by School of Languages, Literacies and Translation (The level of qualification and the relevant courses are to be identified by the University  Postgraduate Studies Council);  OR
viii. English courses from selected Malaysian public/private university or institution. (The level of qualification and the relevant courses should be previously identified and approved by the University Postgraduate Studies Council).
