An Occupational Safety and Health Programme on cotton dust exposure for garment manufacturing workers was successfully organised by the Environmental and Occupational Health Programme, School of Health Sciences, USM on 2nd February 2019 at My Sutera Sdn Bhd, Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan. A total of 156 employees participated in the programme, and facilitated by 12 facilitators from our third- and fourth-year undergraduate students, staff and lecturers.
The programme was commenced with two series of informative talks by Dr. Nurul Ainun Hamzah on “The Effect of Cotton Dust on Respiratory Health”, followed by the Programme Director, Ms. Nur Misya Qamarina binti Mohamed Haniff (3rd year student) on “The Prevention and Control of Cotton Dust Exposure at the Workplace”. Audio-visual presentation, as well as the Question and Answer session were also included in the programme. Lastly, the program ended with a closing remark by Mr. Mohd Zufpe bin Jusoh, Manager of My Sutera Sdn. Bhd. and a dissertation giving ceremony to Mr. Zufpe from Ms. Nur Izzati binti Md. Rasul (Graduated student) with a title on “'Cotton Dust Exposure on Respiratory Health among the Garment Manufacturing Workers”.
It was hoped that this program would foster safety and health in order to maintain conducive and productive working environment as well as to improve the quality of life among the workers.
