School of Health Sciences (PPSK), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has successfully organised the ‘3rd PPSK Science for School: Inspiring Future Scientist’ programme on 10th April 2019. This educational programme is uniquely designed to cultivate interest in science among secondary school students and also to inspire them to become future scientists. This year’s programme was participated by fifty Form 4 and Form 5 students from 10 different schools in the district of Kota Bharu.
The event was commenced with an inspiring and motivational speech by Professor Dr. Norazmi Mohd Nor, Dean of PPSK, as well as the organising chairperson, Associate Prof. Dr. Nurul Asma Abdullah. Activities throughout the programme were properly designed according to secondary school syllabus, enabling the participants to learn about the topics through experimental hands-on practical sessions. Demonstration on human anatomy, self DNA extraction technique, introduction to thalassemia pedigree, analysis of human ABO blood type, as well as an interactive session for basic life support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation were also included. Lastly, the event was ended by a closing remark by the Biomedicine Programme Chairman, Professor Dr. Shaharum Shamsuddin.
It is hoped that this programme will be an annual educational PPSK programme to serve as a formal platform for school-university engagement in the future. Congratulations to all members in making this programme a successful one!
