Nashrulhaq Tagiling, an MSc student from the Medical Radiation program of PPSK, was selected as one of the four awardees for the 2019 South-East Asian Federation of Organizations of Medical Physics (SEAFOMP) Travel Awards. He also managed to secure the 2019 Postgraduate Conference Fund issued by USM’s Institute of Postgraduate Studies.

SEAFOMP is the regional chapter of the International Organization of Medical Physics in SEA. Since its formation in 2000, SEAFOMP had organized a series of congresses to promote scientific exchange and mutual support among its members. This year, researchers in the field of medical physics and biophysics had gathered at Bintang Bali Resort, Bali, Indonesia from 8-10 August 2019 to attend the 17th South-East Asia Congress of Medical Physics (SEACOMP), in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Scientific Meeting on Medical Physics and Biophysics (PIT-FMB).

The theme for this congress is “Improvement on Patient Care and Safety through the innovation in Medical Physics”. Nashrulhaq had presented two oral presentations in the Radiotherapy category. His topics were on the detection of increased radiation dose generated by nanoparticle dose enhancers in proton radiotherapy. Its small size allows it to be internalized easily in tumors, and it is capable of increasing the local treatment efficiency using relatively lower radiation dose.
