CONGRATULATION TO THE INVENTORS IN IUCEL2019
A team of PPSK’s researcher, lead by Dr. Hafzan Yusoff won a bronze medal in International University Carnival of E-Learning (IUCEL2019) held from 21 to 22 August 2019 at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. Their innovation entitled "Design of SMARTS-D4D, a mobile application for dietary monitoring and management among End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients”. The app is currently in the development phase. Other team members are Mr. Hakim Zakaria, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hamid Jan Jan Mohamed, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Nudri Bin Wan Daud, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rafie Bin Mohd Arshad (School of Computer Sciences), Dr. Muhd Al-Aarifin Bin Ismail and Dr. Mohamad Najmi Bin Ahmad (School of Medical Sciences).
SMARTS D4D is a smart dietary guideline tool specifically tailored for dialysis patients. It offers interactive dietitian guidance and personalized dietary plan for patients based on anthropometric, biochemical, clinical. and dietary assessments.
The bilingual app is highly useful for hemodialysis patients in monitoring their nutrient intake, planning daily menu and minimize undesirable complication that may arise. Besides, it will be also useful for healthcare provider such as dietitian as an innovative tool which provide uniform and precise dietary guidance to the patients during consultation, and enable them in monitoring patients’ adherence towards dietary prescriptions. This innovation is highly potential to be commercialized to reach the local as well as international app users. It will contribute in enhancing service delivery towards personalized and digital healthcare in Malaysia.
